BRASHER -- The Brasher Beavers narrowly lost the Chicks with Sticks hockey tournament in a shootout.

Migrating to Rochester, they beat Brockport 5-1, Webster 5-2 and Batavia 8-1 on the way to the title round.

The Beavers faced the Buffalo Crush in a repeat of last year's championship. Finding themselves down 5-2 going into the third period, the ladies turned up the offensive pressure. They chipped away at Buffalo's lead, coming back to 5-4 with 3 minutes left in the third stanza.

The Brasher contingent pulled their goalie 30 seconds into a power play. This enabled them to score, sending the game to overtime.

The Beavers dominated play in both the third frame and overtime periods, but were unable to get the go-ahead goal.

The game went to a best-of-three shootout with neither team scoring.

This lead to a sudden victory shootout, and the Crush won it on the fourth skater.

The Beavers will open their 2015 season with the 6th Droppin the Gloves on Cancer co-ed tournament at the Tri-Town Community Center October 16 to 18. Interested teams can contact Julia Rose at 769-4602 or jrose@massenahospital.org.
