POTSDAM -- Potsdam Superintendent Patrick Brady says his decision to seek a job at Massena Central School was not a response to the proposed school merger.
In a statement released Friday, Brady he explained his decision.
His statement follows:
“As has been reported, I am a finalist candidate for the position of superintendent of schools in the Massena Central School District.
I am honored to be so considered and I look forward to meeting with the Massena community in the days ahead as the hiring process continues.
It has been presented to me through the media that some are equating my potential departure from Potsdam Central School as a reaction to the recent failed merger vote. That is not true. Any decision I make in regard to my future will not be associated with concerns here in Potsdam as I have been honored and privileged to serve this district and community for 22 years as both a teacher and superintendent.
I have tremendous respect for Potsdam and all of those who make it a special place to live and educate our children. The merger was proposed as an opportunity to look at an option which I felt would provide more academic opportunities for students and financial stability for the district. As superintendent, it is my responsibility to explore ideas which may benefit our students and district. However, I respect that this was a difficult issue and the majority of people in the community did not agree to move in this direction.
At this point in my career, the opportunity to lead a larger school district where I have previous administrative experience is an interesting proposition.
The fact that the district would allow me and my family to remain in the North Country is of further value.
It is based on these considerations and the support of my family that have guided me to ultimately make this decision.”
