Angel L. Oliver, 29, was charged by state police today with texting while driving, ultimately causing the death of Chloe Ann O’Neill, 75, Parishville, in a two-car motor vehicle collision on Nov. 15 in the town of Dickinson.
The arrest stems from an investigation that allegedly revealed Oliver was engaged in a cell phone text conversation and failed to observe a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 11B and County Route 5.
“Oliver’s distracted operation resulted in her striking a vehicle being operated by Chloe Ann R. O’Neil and this collision resulted in O’Neill’s death,” said the statement from state police.
Oliver was charged with criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony.
She was arraigned in Malone Town Court where she was released under supervision of the Franklin County Probation Department.
Oliver is to appear in Dickinson Town Court on Dec. 19.
O’Neill served in the state Assembly from 1992 to 1998 after her husband, Assemblyman John G. A. O'Neil, was killed in an auto accident.
