BOCES offering many adult courses in February

St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES has lots of adult course offerings for February.

To register for any of them, call (888) 360-7693.

• Computer Literacy is ideal for beginners. It starts with the elementary functions of the keyboard, mouse, and desktop and then moves on to working in a Windows XP environment. Students will learn how to save, manage files, create, copy, move, or delete folders or files. St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES will offer the course at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:40 p.m. Feb. 29 through March 8. It costs $50.

• Computer Keyboarding will be offered at the Norwood Adult Education Center Feb. 27 through April 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9 – 10 a.m. (16 classes) It costs $129. Learn to use your computer keyboard more effectively, and develop good keyboarding skills using the touch-typing method; increase your speed and accuracy. The class format is a combination of direct instruction and self-guided practice.

• Heartsaver First Aid course teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical service arrives. Learn how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other emergencies. Upon completion of this course, students will receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card that is valid for two years. The course is at the Norwood Adult Education Center from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 28. It costs $50 plus $5 card fee.

• Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements: Tips for Healthy Living will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library on from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 29. Cost is $6. If you are you confused about the use of vitamins, minerals and supplements, this workshop, presented by Dr. Joan Westcott, will help you sort out fact from fallacy.

• Working with your Pharmacist will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15. Cost is $6. Dr. Joan Westcott talks about how a pharmacist works and how a pharmacist can be a resource to learn about over the counter drugs, vitamin supplements and more.

• Budget and Saving Basics will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Feb. 29. Cost is $6. Learn basic budgeting, goal setting, and tips on how to save money; how to set up a simple budget and learn to live within it; discuss techniques and tips that are proven to save money.

• Beginners Cartoon Workshop for Adults will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 15. Learn how to draw and create basic cartoon and caricature faces adding emotions and expressions; draw animals, objects and environments. Local artist Morgan Hastings shows how to create and develop cartoons. The cost is $6.

• Making the Most of 168 Hours will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 27. The cost is $2. Learn simple time management and organizational tricks to keep from procrastinating and enjoying each of the 168 hours of your week.

• Studying Di-mystified will be offered at the Center for Career and Community Engagement in the Massena Library from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1. The cost is $2. Understand the key features of what, how, when and where to study. The workshop is a great way for parents to help their children, as well as themselves.
