POTSDAM – A fire at 28 Pierrepont Ave. completely destroyed a home that was occupied by SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton students around 2 a.m. Friday, according to campus officials.
The apartment building appears to be a total loss, said officials.
Fire hydrants around the village were in the process of being flushed at the time, which caused the lack of immediately-available hydrant water at the scene, according to one witness
But Potsdam firefighter John Keleher, who was running the poumper truck, said there was no lack of water to fight the fire. But he did say the job of fighting the blaze was complicated by the fact that the house wsds divided into so many apartments.
No injuries were reported.
SUNY Potsdam is working on providing housing and support for the student residents.
University Police officers from both campuses are assisting with the response.
