POTSDAM - Upper New York Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb will visit Potsdam United Methodist Church, 26 Main St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, as part of his 12-district tour of the Upper New York Area of the United Methodist Church.
All clergy and laity are invited to attend the service and the reception that follows.
Webb was installed episcopal leader of the UNYA of the United Methodist Church in ceremonies held in Syracuse on Sept. 30. Webb was elected July 19 at the Northeastern Jurisdiction (NEJ) Conference in Charleston, W.Va.
Webb succeeds Bishop Marcus Matthews, who has been assigned to the Washington Area, where he will lead the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference.
Until his election, Bishop Webb was district superintendent of the York District of the Susquehanna Annual Conference
Webb, 47, is a native of York, Pa. He is married to Jody Webb and they have two sons, Tyler, 18, and Benjamin, 16. He holds a M. Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s from Shippensburg University. Before being named superintendent in 2007, Webb served pastor at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mechanicsburg, Pa. He earlier served St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Wormleysburg, Pa.
