Big East Coast storm won’t reach North Country, where sun and near normal temps are expected, Weather Service says

The big snowstorm expected to slam the East Coast in coming days will miss us in the North Country, where clear to partly cloudy skies are predicted for the rest of the week with near normal temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

High pressure moving slowly eastward into the in the St. Lawrence Valley from the northern Great Lakes will sustain mainly dry weather through the rest of this week and through the weekend, according to NWS forecasters.

Temperatures will be near normal for late January in St. Lawrence County, they say, with highs around 20 today and Saturday, and then moderate to above normal early next week, climbing into the mid 20s on Sunday and into the mid 30s Monday and Tuesday. The coldest overnight lows over the next few days are expected to be on Friday night, at about zero.

Any precipitation here is not expected before Monday night, with a 30 percent chance of snow, rising to 50 percent Tuesday and Tuesday night, according to the forecast.

The NWS forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

• Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 0. Wind chill values as low as -7. Light northeast wind.

• Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 20. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph.

• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 2. Northeast wind 3 to 7 mph.

• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 24. Light and variable wind.

• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

• Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Southwest wind around 7 mph.

• Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. South wind around 6 mph.

• Tuesday: A chance of rain and snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

• Tuesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph.

• Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 28. West wind 14 to 16 mph.
