POTSDAM – A bear sighting at Clarkson University has prompted the school to notify local residents who walk on the campus trails to use caution.

A black bear has been sighted in the past week near the Woodstock Village apartments along Clarkson Avenue. While it is not uncommon to see bears on campus occasionally, especially at this time of year, the school’s spokesman Michael Griffin says people should pay close attention to children and pets while walking on the wooded trails on the edge of campus.

The university also advises people to refer to recent DEC news articles on what to do if you encounter a bear.

If you spot a bear on campus, you may feel free to report it to Campus Safety & Security at 268-6666.
