Auxiliary purchases temporary pacemakers for use in Massena Memorial Hospital intensive care unit

MASSENA – The Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recently purchased a Transvenous Pacemaker-Medtronic 5388 -- for the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department.

These pieces of equipment are used as a temporary pacemaker for a patient; a wire is passed through the vein into the heart to provide electrical stimulus for the heart to beat.

Sue Beaulieu, RN, MSN, FACHE, Chief Nurse Executive explained, “The Transvenous Pacemakers is used when the patient’s natural pacemaker fails, such as when a patient has heart disease. The Auxiliary donated $8,772 toward the purchase of two external pacemakers.
