North Country Assemblywoman Addie Russell, R-Theresa, says she is “sick of the corruption” that is highlighted by the indictment recently of allies of Gov. Andrew Cuomo on graft charges.
The assemblywoman, whose “River” district includes all St. Lawrence County towns along the St. Lawrence River plus the towns of Canton, Potsdam, Rossie, Macomb, and DePeyster, and part of Jefferson County, said in a statement that the allegations “show public officials once again abusing their power and influence for their own interests.”
The federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York announced the indictment of nine people connected to upstate economic development projects yesterday.
“Here in the North Country, we believe in an honest day’s pay for an honest day’s work. I’m as sick of the corruption in Albany as North Country residents are,” Russell said in her statement.
"It’s even more disappointing the economic development efforts that are supporting North Country jobs are now being tarnished by corruption,” she said.
None of the nine indictees is from the North Country or has been identified as being involved in contracts in the North Country.
"It’s got to end,” Russell said.
“New Yorkers deserve a state government that is marked by integrity, honesty, accountability and transparency,” she said. “We deserve a government that works for us and works just as hard as we do."
