CANTON -- In recognition of Constitution Day Sept. 17, state Assemblymember Addie Jenne Russell, D-Theresa, will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in SUNY Canton's Miller Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Russell’s speech is the first of a series of events SUNY Canton is hosting in honor of Constitution Day. On Thursday, Sept. 17, SUNY Canton will host a voter registration drive and a trivia contest. Local fifth- and sixth-grade students are part of a Constitution Day poster contest, which will judged by a group of SUNY Canton students, faculty and staff.
Constitution Day recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is observed Sept. 17, the day in which delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia in 1787.
