North Country Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R -Black River) is reminding St. Lawrence County residents that the deadline for Basic STAR registration is fast approaching.
The deadline is Dec. 31.
The one-time registration is required as part of a tax department effort to “root out waste and fraud in the system,” according to a press release from Blankenbush.
Blankenbush, who represents parts of St. Lawrence County, says the program offers hundreds of dollars in saving to eligible households.
Households with a combined income of less than $500,000 are eligible for the exemption.
Seniors are not required to reregister for Enhanced STAR, but must continue to apply annually.
Homeowners can register for STAR at www.tax.ny.gov. A STAR code and home address will be required. If you do not have a STAR code, you can look it up on the website or call 518-457-2036.
The system will also require a name, social security number, and spouse’s name and social security number.
