Artists from St. Lawrence County and beyond have works judged in Remington members’ exhibit

OGDENSBURG -- The Frederic Remington Art Museum’s announces the Public's Choice Award from the 2017 Members’ Juried Art Exhibit, which was on display from May 20 through Sept. 17.

The exhibition was in the museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery and Torrey Family Gallery. The exhibit, themed “reflection,” included 61 works of art by 53 artists.

The public was invited to view the exhibition, either in person or online at www.fredericremington.org, and vote once for the Public’s Choice Award. The 2017 Public’s Choice Award went to Gerard Butler for Honor Thy Father 2012. Gerard was awarded a framed print of Frederic Remington’s, White Wings 1894.

Juror Anne Swiderski selected prize winners. Gerard Butler's “Honor Thy Father” also won the third place, second place went to Gary Larsen of Edinburg for “Goat Island” (2017, black and white infrared photograph, 28 x 20”), and Best in Show went to Eleanor Sweeney of Saranac Lake for “At the Temple of Dendur” (2017, photograph, 13 1/2 x 11 1/2").

Many of the works were for sale, and four were sold. One third of the proceeds benefit the Frederic Remington Art Museum, and two thirds go to the artist.

Following the members' exhibit, the museum held an opening reception for its 2017 International Juried Art Exhibit on Sept. 23. The exhibit will be on display through January 14. The juror was Stephen Horne.
