Artists from Massena, Massena, Winthrop, Potsdam, Norfolk, Waddington take accolades in Massena Artists Association juried show

MASSENA -- Artists from Massena, Winthrop, Potsdam, Norfolk and Waddington won awards in the Massena Artists Association’s 30th juried art exhibit.

First-place awards included William Parmer of Winthrop for his oil painting “Winter Woods,” Eileen Boots of Massena for her acrylic painting “Dahlias,” Michiko Taylor of Potsdam for her watercolor “Sweet Onions,” Luanne Tucker of Norfolk for her pencil drawing “Brodie,” George Fairbanks of Massena for his pair of photos “Colorado River Upstream View” and “Colorado River Downstream View,” Jan Wojcik of Potsdam for his wood sculpture “The Inner Life of a Tree” and Beverly Quenville of Malone for her block print, “Family of Five.”

Second-place awards included Sandra Young of Dickinson for her oil painting “Home of Almanzo,” Patricia Badlam Van Patten of Waddington for her acrylic painting “Waiting for Dawn,” Kim Haag of Winthrop for her watercolor “Life’s Wonder,” Jim Murray of Potsdam for his graphite pencil drawing “Nellie,” Kylee Disotelle of Malone for her photo, “Venice Puddle,” Ron Morrow of Massena for his wood sculpture “Artis-tree,” Wojcik for his wood sculpture, “Mother Tree and Children” and Adele Constantineau of Cornwall for her mixed media piece, “Unexpected Revelation.”

Third-place awards included Caron Roulston of Chateaugay for her oil painting “Afternoon Stroll – Tiber River,” Van Patten for her acrylic painting “Leishman Lookout,” Taylor for her watercolor “Fall Harvest,” Anne Ray for her pastel “Spring Runoff II” and Disotelle for her photo, “Approaching Storm.”

Honorable mention included Parmer for his oil painting, “St. Regis River at Winthrop, NY,” Roulston for her oil painting “Cherries 1, 2, & 3,” Lorna Eldred for her acrylic painting “A Walk in the Woods,” Haag for her watercolor “Top View,” Eldred for her pencil drawing “Western Pleasure” and Dean Ducas of Cornwall for his photo, “Nite-N-Gale Motel.”

Ducas also won the best in show award for his black-and-white photo “Ghosts of a Doomed Bridge.”

This year’s Young Artist Award winner was Lexsi Thomas, 16, for her charcoal drawings “American Horror Story,” and “Inspiration.”

The works will be on display at the Massena Public Library through Feb. 27.
