HELENA -- Tony Arquiett has announced his candidacy for re-election to the St. Lawrence County Legislature’s District 13 seat. The district includes the towns of Brasher and Lawrence in their entirety and part of the town of Massena.

“I am pleased to formally announce my bid for re-election to the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators,” Arquiett, Democrat, said in a press release.

Arquiett is seeking his third term in office.

“I will continue to work hard on behalf of my neighbors in District 13 and the many taxpayers across our vast county.

“I’ll continue to work for our local business owners who provide much needed employment opportunities but still endure rigid state regulatory processes and struggle to keep their doors open. I’ll continue to work for our retirees, whose budgets are fixed and cannot afford tax increases. I’ll continue to work for the men and women who are in the active workforce in order to help provide employment stability. I’ll continue to work for our young people so that they may have the opportunity to find local employment and remain active members of their local communities.

“I’ve demonstrated a willingness to work across party lines and I am proud to have been an important part of the team still trying to steer our county’s financial situation in a positive direction. I’ve been financially conservative while still making every effort to continue the essential services that we as a county embrace and expect.

“I’ve led the charge, with the support of dozens of colleagues from throughout the county and the hard work of Deb Christie and the St. Lawrence County Trails Advisory Board, to develop a Multiuse Recreational Trail system that will soon span the entire county.

“Today, the trail provides users who hike, ride horseback, ski, bicycle, snowshoe and operate ATV’s and snowmobiles direct access to our beautiful state lands and, when complete, to a much broader trail network that spans the entirety of upstate New York. While the trail system provides unprecedented opportunity for outdoor recreation, it will more importantly provide a new source of revenue for all of the businesses that accommodate its use.”
