April showers, chance of snow will persist in St. Lawrence Valley

Posted

Southwestern St. Lawrence County is under a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service until 5 p.m, today.

The NWS is warning is for sleet, snow and freezing rain in the higher elevations of St. Lawrence County. Accumulations could amount to an inch of snow and sleet and more than a quarter-inch of ice.

Mixed precipitation took many in the St. Lawrence valley by surprise this morning, as schools delayed starting times or closed because of hazardous conditions.

In the rest of the county, little or no more ice accumulation is expected today, but there is a 70 percent chance of snow tonight that could amount to another half an inch.

And Saturday, it will be cold enough in the morning for a chance of snow before it changes to rain. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent Saturday, 50 percent Saturday night, and 30 percent Sunday.
