The St. Lawrence County chapter of the American Association of University Women is taking applications for the 2015 AAUW Memorial Scholarship.

The deadline is May 1. The scholarship will be awarded at the St. Lawrence County Branch annual meeting this spring.

The one-time $500 scholarship will be awarded to a female SUNY Canton student who is a permanent resident of St. Lawrence County continuing her higher education by transitioning from a local two-year college program to an accredited four-year program.

Candidates must posses a GPA of at least 2.5. Preference is given to non-traditional aged women who show leadership and community service potential and are pursuing their degree in one of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields.

Application forms are available at www.northnet.org/stlawrenceaauw and from Tina Flanagan, French Hall 216 at SUNY Canton. For more information, contact flanagant@canton.edu or 386-7868. Applicants should submit the completed application form, a faculty letter of support and a 500-700 word letter reflecting on their educational goals, career ambitions and a community service history.

The 2015 AAUW Scholarship is given in memory of long-time member Hazel L. Giltinan (1924-2014). A resident of Ogdensburg, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Potsdam in 1974. She served as a library clerk at the Ogdensburg Public Library for 27 years until her retirement in 1981.
