OGDENSBURG -- A $40,000 amendment to an existing service contract between the city and the Development Authority of the North Country will provide services at the water filtration plant, not the wastewater treatment plant.

In an article which appeared Wednesday online at NorthCountryNow.com, the resolution was misinterpreted. Department of Public Works Director Scott Thornhill said the amended contract will extend DANC services at the water filtration plant that will be similar to those DANC is providing at the wastewater treatment plant.

Thornhill says the DANC’s expertise will allow the city to better monitor the plant and make better use of the SCADA system and needed improvements to ensure the facility remains up-to-date.

The original contract provided similar oversight at the city’s wastewater plant. Under that contract Ogdensburg is paying $125,000 this year and scaling that cost up to $140,000 by 2020. This amendment will add $40,000 to that contract in the first year an scale up to $43,000 by 2020 for the service at the water filtration plant.

Ogdensburg has been working closely with DANC as it rolls out a $35 million improvement project at its wastewater facility. Thornhill said improved monitoring provided by DANC may help the city limit the need for large scale projects in the future by ensuring technology at both facilities is upgraded in an more efficient manner.
