Alzheimer’s walk in Canton Sunday raises $33,500

CANTON -- The 2013 Walk To End Alzheimer’s Sunday raised $33,500 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funds raised at the event, which started at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club and continued on the Remington Recreation Trail, support the chapter’s work to defeat Alzheimer’s disease, and individuals and families dealing with a diagnosis.

Nearly 200 people participated in a three-mile walk, registered for clinical trials, and spoke with elected officials. The opening ceremony featured an tribute to those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

The leading fundraiser was Massena resident Lucia Johnson with $4,508. Her team, Memory Keepers, was the leading friends and family team with $7,293 raised.

Community Bank, N.A. raised $906 to earn the top corporate team award.

United Journey, a team of residents and staff from the United Helpers’ Maplewood campus in Canton, was the top senior care team with $4,484 raised.
