All St. Lawrence County school districts saw an increase in Foundation aid in the recently passed budget.

St. Lawrence County school districts will receive a $9.94 million increase in state aid for 2017-18, for a total of $226.8 million.

Of the total, about $7.9 million of the state aid increase comes in the form of operational aid, while the other $2 million is allocated for building improvements. Operational aid can be allocated to maintain programs and pay for services, such as BOCES.

Many schools that have been strapped for cash and forced to make cuts in recent years have welcomed the increase in aid.

Potsdam hopes to use the funding to restore a math teacher position and a clerical job. It will also allow the school to increase a part-time shared psychologist position to a full time job.
