All seven state legislators who represent St. Lawrence County named to NY Farm Bureau’s ‘Circle of Friends'

The New York Farm Bureau has come out with its annual “Circle of Friends” among state legislators, and all five of those representing parts of St. Lawrence County were included.

The representatives for St. Lawrence County chosen include Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton), chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and Assemblymen Ken Blankenbush (R-Black River) and Marc Butler (R-Newport), members of the Assembly Agriculture Committee.

Also included were Assemblywomen Addie Russell (D-Theresa) and Janet Duprey (R-Peru) and Senators Joe Griffo (R-Rome) and Elizabeth Little (R-Queensbury).

Ritchie’s district includes much of the western part of the county; Griffo represents a swath of the county from Brasher and Massena to Clifton and Fine; Little’s district includes eastern St. Lawrence County south of Brasher; Russell’s district includes townships along the St. Lawrence River plus Potsdam and Canton; Blankenbush represents southwestern St. Lawrence County; Duprey’s district includes eastern parts of the county south of Brasher; Butler’s district includes much of central St. Lawrence County.

The bureau named 125 of the 213 state legislators to the list.

The distinction is based upon each legislator’s voting record on issues of importance to the bureau.

Inclusion in the circle is an indication of the lawmaker’s support of the Farm Bureau’s positions on agriculture policy “as well as other evidence of legislative support, including sponsorship of bills that New York Farm Bureau has either supported or opposed during the most recent legislative session,” the announcement from the Farm Bureau said.

“The selected lawmakers from both the Assembly and Senate were chosen for their commitment to the hard working farm families in New York. Each friend has demonstrated that they understand the importance of agriculture to the people of their legislative district, and how farming significantly impacts the economy of this great state,” said Dean Norton, President of New York Farm Bureau.

The “Circle of Friends” is not an endorsement or a permanent friendship pact. The list only uses results from the 2014 legislative session.
