MASSENA – An employee at Massena's Alcoa plant was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital and treated for burns from an 'electrical arc,' Alcoa officials say.
An ensuing power outage in some areas of the plant contributed to a fire in the facility's bake furnace and the local fire department extinguished the fire around 9 p.m., officials say.
"While the investigation is ongoing, we can confirm that no one was injured from the fire, and the plant's molten metal production is unaffected," a spokesoman for Alcoa said in an emailed response.
Further details regarding a fire at the Alcoa plant in Massena remain unavailable despite at least four departments arriving at the scene to fight the large blaze Monday.
Firefighters from Massena, Louisville, Hogansburg and Helena were on scene last night.
Massena firefighters said they could not provide comment on the incident as Alcoa’s own firefighters were the primary on the incident.
