MASSENA -- Alcoa will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at the Massena East Plant July 1 to celebrate moving forward with the next phase of their modernization project.
As announced in April, Alcoa will present the New York Power Authority with a $10 million check to capitalize the North Country Economic Development Fund.
Alcoa Foundation will also award a grant to a regional non-profit organization to support workforce skills development.
The ceremony begins at noon.
A project overview shows that the plan includes construction of a new potline at Alcoa’s Massena East, formerly the Reynolds Metals smelter, which will produce 144,000 metric tons of aluminum per year; upgrades to existing facilities at Massena West; and modifications to other existing facilities that will help integrate the two plants and support the new potline.
