An Akwesasne woman is facing multiple charges after running from a secondary border inspection in Canada and being caught with nearly 200 pounds of undeclared tobacco.
On Oct. 5, Justine Jacobs, 31, of Akwesasne, was referred for a secondary examination at the Cornwall port of entry, according to Canadian Border Services Agency.
Instead of complying with the request, she allegedly fled the port, driving south towards Cornwall Island at a high rate of speed, CBSA said.
CBSA alerted the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service, who captured Jacobs and transported her and her vehicle back to the port of entry.
CBSA officers say they found in the trunk several bags of undeclared fine cut tobacco weighing about 200 pounds.
On Oct. 13, Jacobs was charged with hindering an officer and evading compliance, CBSA said.
She was released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 8, according to CBSA.
