MASSENA -- An Akwesasne man faces nine charges including four felonies after he allegedly robbed a female victim and hit another man with a vehicle causing severe injuries to his spine and pelvis early Sunday morning.
Michael T. Neff, 27, of Hogansburg, was charged with first-degree robbery for causing serious injury and second-degree robbery for causing minor injuries to another victim.
He was additionally charged with leaving the scene of an accident, unlawful possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license, unsafe backing, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, and DWI with a previous conviction in the past 10 years
Massena-based state police said Neff allegedly went to a Roosevelt Street resident's home where he allegedly injured her hand while stealing her Motorola cellular phone.
Troopers said Neff apparently had a previous relationship with the victim.
Neff then allegedly backed into another victim while fleeing the scene causing serious injuries to his spine and back.
Troopers said Neff pinned the man between his truck and another vehicle as he attempted to leave in a hurray.
Troopers said the victim was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital and may have been flown to to Flether-Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt.
Neff was located by Tribal Police in the Town of Bombay and turned over to Massena troopers.
Neff initially refused a breath test but was eventually charged with drunken driving. Troopers said had a previous conviction within the past 10 years.
Troopers said the incident remains under investigation and there may be more victims and charges.
"There is a lot to this and we have to track down other possible victims. There may be some other aspects to this, but we won't know until we do some more interviews. This could take a while," a Massena-based state police sergeant said.
Troopers aid Neff was sent to St. Lawrence County without bail where he remains in lock up.
