Famed band The Beach Boys stay at Potsdam's Clarkson Inn, say it has 'Good Vibrations'

POTSDAM – The Beach Boys have given the Clarkson Inn five stars out of five after their stay there yesterday, and they say they will be back next summer.

The famed pop band stayed at the inn yesterday on a day off between gigs in Quebec on Sunday and in Pennsylvania tonight.

While they were here “they really enjoyed themselves,” said inn manager George LaVigne.

It was a day off for them, so the band and their crew – about 12 in all -- played volleyball in Ives Park next to the hotel, went to do some laundry, “and I think they went to Sergi’s,” the Italian restaurant on Market Street, LaVigne said. Some members of the group also reportedly went to see a film at the Roxy Theater.

“They came in about 7 a.m. yesterday and left at about 1 a.m. today,” he said.

The band, hitmakers in the 1960s and ’70s with chart-topping tunes such as “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Good Vibrations,” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” was between concert dates in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec and Kennett Square, Pa.

They were so impressed with the inn that band member and Grammy Award winning songwriter Bruce Johnston wrote a rave review for TripAdvisor.com:

“The Clarkson Inn Has Good Vibrations”

I am a long time member of a band that's famous for surf music, car music, singing about girls, school loyalty, and the sounds of pets!

We currently are in the middle of a summer concert tour and we're all staying here at the Clarkson Inn in Potsdam, New York, for a beautiful August summer day and night off.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a most gracious hotel staff that can't seem do enough for us. Our breakfast in the hotel dining area was subtly elegant and French hotel general manager George Lavigne (along with the amazing hotel staff) prepared a breakfast that has a rating of eleven out of a possible ten! I must add that the breakfast was very reasonably priced.

FYI: Mr. Lavigne actually wears slacks, a dress shirt & tie in the middle of summer as he creates beautiful omelets to order.

My room is large, ultra clean and comes with three windows overlooking a beautiful lawn next to a gently flowing river. In my room I see a small fridge, microwave and a nice LG flat screen television just in front of one of the two queen size beds. Also, the internet is fast and my first move was to get on Trip Advisor and share the news about our good luck being here at the hotel. There are plenty of good vibrations here in the Clarkson Inn.

All of us in the band are thrilled to be guests of the Clarkson Inn and we all will be back here next summer!

LaVigne said it’s a matter of courtesy not to talk about famous guests while they are there, but after they leave, if it’s okay with them, he can talk about them.

The good review was a bonus he said.

“It’s good for the community.”
