The average number of veterans for all counties in the state is 45 per thousand people.
Of the 892,000 veterans in the state 92.9 percent were men and 7. 4 percent were women. The largest number of veterans were in the 65 to 69 age group, accounting for 15.1 percent of the total.
The office said the highest concentrations of veterans are typically found in less populated areas such as the North Country and Southern Tier counties, in part because the population tends to be older.
By period of service, the largest number of veterans served during the Vietnam era, accounting for just over 278,000 of 31.2 percent of all veterans.
