MASSENA -- Melissa’s Closet aims to distribute over 800 prom dresses for free this spring.

On April 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., they will be in the space between JC Penney and Bon Ton in the St. Lawrence Centre mall.

Girls from St. Lawrence, Franklin, Jefferson, Essex and Clinton counties can pick up a dress.

There will be 12 changing rooms available.

Once a dress leaves the store, it belongs to whomever takes it.

Melissa’s Closet is named after Melissa Walsh, formerly of Massena, who died in a 2007 car accident. Her twin sister, Megan Walsh Hakewill, is involved with the program, which is in its ninth year.
