POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam is to get $750,000 for establishing the State University of New York’s first Center for Applied Learning, which will expand the research, development, testing and implementation of applied learning in collaboration with colleges and universities throughout SUNY.
The center, in Crumb Memorial Library on campus, held its ribbon-cutting Wednesday.
“SUNY Potsdam is grateful to have our leadership on applied learning — as the first campus within the State University of New York to found a dedicated center for high-impact learning experiences—recognized with such significant support from the SUNY Investment and Performance Fund,” said President Kristin G. Esterberg at the Wednesday ceremony. “This funding will allow us to build scalability, so that models of success for applied learning can be developed here at Potsdam and replicated throughout the system.”
The funding is part of $4.6 million awarded to SUNY campuses in the North Country from the university system’s Investment and Performance Fund, “which facilitates SUNY’s completion agenda by enabling the scale up of evidence-based campus programs to reach more students,” the announcement from SUNY said.
The SUNY Investment and Performance Fund was established by an $18 million allocation in the 2015-16 New York State Budget, and added to it funds taken from the existing Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Open SUNY, the Empire Innovation Program, and $55 million from the NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant Program.
