AKWESASNE – A 68-year-old Chilean citizen was sentenced today to serve 30 months in prison for illegally re-entering the Untied States.
Victor Manuel Fuentes-Gomez pled guilt to re-entering and being found in the U.S. after he was previously removed from the country, according to U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and John C. Pfeifer, U.S. Border Patrol’s chief patrol agent for the Swanton Sector, which includes Akwesasne.
Fuentes-Gomez was found by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police and Border Patrol agents in Hogansburg on Jan. 25.
He had previously been deported and removed from the U.S. to Chili in 1975 and again in 2015.
After Fuentes-Gomez completes his prison term, the Department of Homeland Security will process him for removal from the U.S., officials said.
