MADRID -- Madrid-Waddington Central School District will be getting $50,000 to “tap into the learning potential of the great outdoors” and improve its nature trail, construct an outdoor classroom and “enhance outdoor learning sites,” according to Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton.

“Here at Madrid Waddington, we see outdoor learning as a major part of the educational experience for our students,” said Madrid-Waddington Central School District Superintendent Lynn Roy. “By taking learning outside the classroom, we’re giving them an opportunity to learn about everything from the importance of protecting the environment to the lives of various species.

“We would like to thank Senator Ritchie for her help in securing this important funding, which is helping us achieve our goal of offering our students the best education possible.”

“This is a project that not only will benefit students, but also community members who utilize the district’s nature trail,” Sen. Ritchie said. “I am pleased to deliver this funding, and look forward to seeing how the Madrid-Waddington Central School District uses it to improve educational offerings for its students, as well as outdoor recreation for those who live in the area.”

Release of funds is subject to state approval, Sen. Ritchie said.
