CANTON -- A GoFundMe site raising money for a St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputy who was hospitalized in Sweden recently for a serious internal illness has already exceeded it $25,000 goal.

The site collected $37,096 from 276 donors in 17 hours. Donations can be made to http://www.gofundme.com/bringjackback.

Jack Flanagan ran the St. Lawrence Inn for over 20 years and is a deputy sheriff at the St. Lawrence County Jail.

Flanagan and his wife Kathy have been an integral part of the North Country, Mark Bracket said via email. He has been a tireless volunteer in Canton athletics as well as the community, according to Bracket.

They raised their sons, Sean and Kyle, in Canton to be exceptional young men, as well as pretty good hockey players. The Flanagan family has been involved in all aspects of the community, Bracket said.

On one of Jack’s rare trips out of Canton, he was looking forward to visiting his youngest son, Kyle, who is playing professional hockey in Sweden. Midway through his trip on Feb. 20, Jack was admitted to the hospital for a serious internal illness.

When his condition did not improve, Kathy and Sean flew to Sweden to be with Jack and Kyle where they have remained as a family. The last two weeks have been both difficult and exhausting for the Flanagans, Bracket said.
