Jenny and Brian Walker were selected as GardenShare's 2013 Growing Community Award recipients.
POTSDAM -- Brian and Jenny Walker, proprietors of the 1844 House were selected as GardenShare's 2013 Growing Community Award recipients.
The award will be presented at the Harvest Social Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. Dessert will be served.
The Walkers' commitment to use of locally produced food at the 1844 House has helped local farmers grow their businesses.
"Brian and Jenny's emphasis on fresh, local produce, meats and cheeses helps them create incredible meals while at the same time building awareness of the amazing bounty of our region," says Aviva Gold, GardenShare executive director. "Keeping money circulating around our local economy is crucial to helping us out of our economic slump."
The Growing Community Award recognizes individuals and organizations whose efforts strengthen our community-based food system.
Past recipients include North Country Public Radio, North Country Grown Cooperative, the UShare program of Canton's Unitarian Universalist Church, Katherine Lang, Betsy Hodge, and Carlton Doane.
