PARISHVILLE -- A 13-year old Parishville girl plans to raise money for the school's music program and provide entertainment for the community with a "Musicality" event.

Amanda Mason was among the three St. Lawrence County youths who were granted $100 in seed money through the St. Lawrence Community Action Angels "Kids are Key" program.

Mason said she chose a project based on music, because it is important to her.

"The most important thing in my life is music," she stated in her concert announcement. "So I decided to organize a musical event for any musicians from the whole county to perform for Parishville, and any neighboring community residents that wanted to come and watch."

All profits from the event will benefit the Parishville-Hopkinton Central School music program.

Mason is hoping to gain support from local musical acts throughout the county. She said she is looking for musicians who are willing to volunteer their services both as performers and teachers, as well as car enthusiasts who might be willing to come the event.

Action Angels Coordinator Alicia M. Murphy said "Kids are Key" program is designed to introduce children to community service and allow them to play a more active role in their communities.

“Children who participate in the program will learn to become more aware of the needs of others, and discover the importance of volunteerism,” she said.

Murphy said Mason is right on track with the program’s goal.

“Amanda is a very ambitious young lady with a strong desire to make a positive change in her community,” she said. “ I look forward to Oct. 6 to see the fruits of her labors.”

Other participants in the Kids Are Key project include ten-year-old Eve Higginson, of Waddington, and 12-year-old Marc Tessier, of Massena.

“All three participants are very special, very driven kids. This project will help to develop them as contributing leaders in their communities,” Murphy said. “We are looking forward to reporting on the progress of their respective projects.”

The event is planned for Oct. 6 at Parishville Recreational Park.

Mason said Volunteers are needed for set up and clean up, preparing and distributing food, ticket sales, musical performers, classic car owners and anyone interested in offering children short lessons on anything musical.
