POTSDAM – Over 125 people attended the Canton-Potsdam Hospital hosted “Emergency Preparedness Day” recently as part of National Hospital Week
Attendees received information on preparing for emergencies, both man-made and natural. Some of the community groups represented were the Potsdam Neighborhood Center, St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Potsdam Humane Society, Red Cross Disaster Relief, Public Health and CPH Emergency Services and Infection Control.
Hershey, the K-9 unit Search and Rescue dog performed a mock rescue, and the Red Cross distributed home emergency kits.
There was a draw for a solar-powered L.L.Bean radio, won by Eileen Chafee and two Life Straws, capable of purifying and rendering potable up to 1000 litres of contaminated water. The winners of the Life Straws were Andrew Wieszczyk and Benni Fenton.
