12 St. Lawrence County concerts, cultural events to receive state Council on Arts funding in 2011

POTSDAM – A dozen concerts and cultural events in St. Lawrence County will receive funding this year from the state Council on the Arts.

The St. Lawrence County Arts Council will hold an awards celebration for Community Arts Grant recipients Saturday, Jan. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at 51 Market St.

The grants are awarded annually for public arts and cultural projects in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence Counties and are administered by the arts council with funds from the state Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.

Those wishing to attend the event are asked to make reservations by calling 265-6860 or e-mailing [email protected]. Snow date is Feb. 5.

St. Lawrence County arts and cultural projects to be receiving 2011 Community Arts Grants at event include:

• Clifton-Fine Economic Development Corporation’s 2011 Summer Arts Series in Wanakena and Cranberry Lake;

• Gouverneur Recreation Department’s Missoula Children's Theatre presentation;

• Madrid Bluegrass River Festival and Town of Madrid’s Bluegrass River Festival;

• Morristown Gateway Museum’s 2011 Concerts and Arts & Crafts Fair;

• Morristown Public Library’s Arts Uniting the Generations!;

• Potsdam Chamber of Commerce and Potsdam Community Development Corporation’s Potsdam Summer Festival Music;

• Potsdam Community Chorus’ Spring Concert: JS Bach's "Magnificat";

• Reading Room Association of Gouverneur’s Mark Twain Live;

• Richville Historical Association & Richville Free Library’s Richville Heritage Alive Through the Arts;

• Riverview Park Association’s Summer Concert Series: Music in the Park in Gouverneur;

• Russell Opera House and Town of Russell’s 2011 Concert Series;

• Waddington Redevelopment Association & Town of Waddington’s Waddington Summer Concert Series.
