About 1,000 National Grid customers in Ogdensburg and about 80 around North Russell and DeGrasse were without power this morning, according to the electricity distributor.
Though the cause is not yet known, the extremely wet weather could be a factor in the power outages that apparently started around 6 a.m.
The largest area is in Ogdensburg around State Street near the St. Lawrence River, plus a handful without power east of downtown.
Although National Grid says it does not expect power there to be restored before 10 a.m., one Lafayette Street resident reported power back at about 8:45 a.m.
