Zelyez powers Roos baseball to split with Vermont Tech

(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton baseball team split with Vermont Technical College as they won game two 14-2 in five innings after dropping the opener 8-4.

Michael Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) went deep for a solo home run, his first of the year, in the fourth inning of the nightcap.  Zelyez also had a triple and he scored three times.

Evan Hammond (Ottawa, Ontario) laced three singles and also had a double, three runs, and three RBIs.  Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) added a double and three runs, and Danny Perez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had two singles and an RBI. 

Dillon James (Ottawa, Ontario) pitched the Roos (3-5 Sunrise Conference, 3-26 overall) to the win as he held the Green Knights to two hits with two strikeouts in four innings.  Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) pitched the final inning and forced Vermont Tech to go three-and-out with two strikeouts and a ground out.

In game one, Zelyez had another performance at the plate as the junior had two doubles, two singles and an RBI.

Hammond and Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, Ontario) each had an RBI-single and Nick Belile (Norwood, N.Y.) added two singles.

Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ontario) struck out two batters and surrendered 12 hits and four walks in the loss.

The Roos head to Keuka College on Tuesday, April 12 for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. and then they’ll host Cazenovia College on Thursday, April 14 starting at 2 p.m. in Canton.
