POTSDAM, N.Y.- Senior swimmer Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) broke Alexander Taylor's 200 IM record set back in 2013 during the second day at the SUNYAC Championship in Buffalo.
Zapisek swam to a second place finish in the 200 IM finals on Thursday evening with a time of 1:54.41 to break the three-year old Potsdam record, while fellow senior Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) finished 29th (2:09.15). Junior Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 14th in the B final for the 500 Free and senior Delvyne Santiago (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) touched the wall at 4:58.84 for 18th place. During the 50 Free race, freshman Andres Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George Washington) finished 35th (23.34), junior Tim Knapp (Neward, N.Y./Newark) finished 37th (23.68) and freshman Nic Salerno (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) closed out Potsdam's swimmers with a time of 26.17. The relay team of Knapp, Rodriguez, Carlini and senior Clement York (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) placed 9th in the 200 Free Relay (1:32.65) and in the 400 Medley Relay sophomore Jacob Van De Valk (Genoa, N.Y./Southern Cayuga), Carlini, Zapisek and Blackburn teamed up to finish ninth with a time of 3:36.74.
The women were led by sophomore Emily Gulitti (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) with a 15th place finish in the 200 IM, while sophomore Colleen Fraser (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and sophomore Kristen Burr (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) finished 23rd and 26th, respectively. During the 50 Free, junior Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene) placed 21st (26.11), junior Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay) finished 26th (26.45) and senior Grace Zimmerman (Victor, N.Y./Victor) placed 31st (28.06). Yeager, Gulitti and Wood teamed up with freshman Hallie Marquart (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) to compete in the 200 Free Relay with an 8th place finish with a time of 1:43.69. Sophomore diver Darien Frederick (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) placed 11th with a score of 305.40 to close out the second day of the championships.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. when the SUNYAC Championships resume.
