The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team was narrowly defeated by the University of Rochester, 5-4, on Saturday at the Sammis Tennis Courts. The Saints, ranked No. 16 in the Northeast Region, suffer their second loss of the season and move to 10-2. Meanwhile, the regionally ranked No. 14 Yellowjackets improve to 8-3 on the season.

The Saints took two of three matches in doubles, with senior Hillary Drewry and first-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt beating Francis Tseng and Jamie Bow, 8-5, at No. 1. First-year students Olivia Arroyo and Anna Young defeated Janice Zhao and Cara Genbauffe, 8-6, at No. 3, while Alex Goodman and Danielle Shreck topped juniors Elizabeth Geer and Shannon Murphy, 8-2, at No. 2.

The Yellowjackets won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory. Tseng defeated Drewry, 6-2,6-1 at No. 1, while Shreck beat Arroyo 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3. Vandenbeemt and Geer earned singles victories for the Saints with wins over Goodman (6-1,6-2) at No. 2 and Bow (7-5, 7-5) at No. 4, respectively.

Murphy and Young dropped tough three-set matches at No. 5 and No. 6. Murphy was edged by Suresky 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-4, while Young battled Genbauffe but fell 6-7(3), 6-1, 7-5.

The Saints will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon against Liberty League opponent Rensselaer at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
