CANTON--The SUNY Canton women's soccer team lost to the University of Maine at Presque Isle 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Canton.
The Roos dropped to 1-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 3-4 overall.
SUNY Canton had several great chances late in the second half but just came up short. Teresa Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had a direct kick with under 25 minutes left that barely sailed over the cross bar. Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) also had a great opportunity a short time later as she got a step ahead of her defender and made a strong rush up the right wing. Her shot to the opposite corner narrowly missed the net and sailed wide.
The Owls scored two quick goals in the final five minutes to earn the win. Desiree Smith scored in the 85th minute and Elena Estrada in the 87th.
Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) had three saves in goal for the Roos and Taylor Ussery stopped five shots for the Owls.
The Roos will next host Vermont Technical College on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m.
