St. Lawrence University junior Hailey Wilson shot a nine-over-par 81 to finish tied for the lead on Day 1 of the William Smith Invitational at Clifton Springs Country Club on Saturday afternoon. Wilson's finish helped the Saints post a team score of 341, five strokes behind Ithaca, which posted a 48-over-par 336.
Wilson will start Day 2 of the tournament tied with Hamilton's Libbie Warner and Ithaca's Kimberley Wong. The trio is two strokes clear of Kyra Denish, who is fourth after shooting an 83, while Union's Carly Cappola is fifth at +13..
Lexie Haehl shot an 86, five strokes behind Wilson, in a seven-way tie for sixth. Emma Mellman and Oliva Zachman are both one stroke behind in a tie for 13th, while Natalie Squillace shot a 91 to finish Day 1 in 22nd.
The Saints are eight strokes ahead of Union and 11 ahead of Hamilton in the nine-team tournament, which will wrap up play on Sunday afternoon.
