Kaleigh White scored her 15th goal of the season in the second minute of the Liberty League Championship game against William Smith, but the Herons battled back and would eventually win 2-1 in overtime for their ninth consecutive conference title on Saturday in Geneva, N.Y.

With the goal, White tied the program record for goals in a season set by Hall-of-Famer Meredith Eisenhut in 2000. It was also the first goal the Herons have given up to a Liberty League opponent this season.

"I was really proud of the very strong effort we put into the game today," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "Kaleigh's goal really gave us positive momentum and we attacked them much harder than we did earlier in the year."

White beat the defense and ripped a shot from the top of the box that beat Veronica Romines just 1:52 into the game to put the Saints in front 1-0 on the first shot of the game.

The Scarlet and Brown held that lead until Krista Longo headed a cross past senior goalkeeper Kelsey West for the equalizer in the 66th minute.

Through regulation, the Herons posted a commanding 29-4 advantage in shots including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.

William Smith netted the game winner on its first shot early in the first overtime, as MacKenzie Smith found the back of the net off a feed from Kara Shue to clinch the title for the Herons.

West finished with eight saves for St. Lawrence, while Romines made three stops for William Smith.

"Kelsey was outstanding between the pipes today and our team defense really frustrated them," Bari added. "We discussed leaving it all on the field today and we certainly did."

West and White were named to the All-Tournament team for St. Lawrence, as was Samantha Rock, Lindsay Geier and Emily DePoy.

The Saints' season lies in the hands of the NCAA selection committee, as they'll wait to see if they earn an at-large bid to the national tournament. The selection show is slated for 1:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
