St. Lawrence University senior Jack Whelan set a Saint golf team 36-hole record with a four-under 68 on Sunday and a 137 total, winning his eighth career individual championship and second St. Lawrence University Invitational title. Whelan's seven-under par total helped the Saint Scarlet take the team title, just its second win in the Invitational since 2003.

The Scarlet team shot 295 on Sunday with junior transfer Parker Dennis backing Whelan with a one-over 73, Colin Dowd shooting 75, Brady Garrett 79 and Spencer Shipperly 80. NYU, which led by four strokes after the first round, had a 311 total in round two and finished 12 strokes off the Saints winning total of 596. The Saint team set scoring records with its 295 tying the low team round in program history and the 596 total the best 36-hole score.

Whelan shot an opening round of three-under 69 and was the only player to break par on a soggy Saturday opening round. Clarkson's Tyler Cline was the only other player to break par on the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course for the weekend, shooting 69 on Sunday.

SLU had 15 participants in the field and 13 of the 15 broke 80 on their home course Saturday despite early rain and soggy playing conditions. Dennis, a transfer from Eckerd College, was second for the Scarlet team and tied for third overall with a 74 while Garrett, Shipperly and Dowd completed the Scarlet team lineup and all three shot 79.

The Saint Brown team was third in the 11-team men's field with a 615 total while Clarkson was fourth at 620 followed by Oswego at 624, the SLU Saint team with 636, Canton College at 637, Hamilton at638, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Potsdam tied for ninth at 644 and Utica was 11th at 696.

Jake Danforth and Brandon Lustig led the Brown team with two-day totals of 151, tied for seventh overall. Danforth shot 75 and 76 while Lustig followed up a 77 with a Sunday 74. Justin Ward was tied for 13th with 79-76-155, Sam Cregg shot 78-80 for 158 and Ryan Flynn 79 and 80 for 159. Jack Reardon led the Saints team with rounds of 77 and 79 for a 155 total while Nick Santaro and Francis Shields each shot 77-80 for 157. Peter Warden shot 80 and 87 and Alex Kuno carded rounds of 90 and 88.

The Saint men will play at the Allegheny Guy Kuhn Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
