Watkins second double-double leads Roos women’s basketball past Hornets, 62-48

Canton, NY – Autumn Watkins recorded her second double-double of the season as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team earned a crucial 62-48 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) win v. NVU-Lyndon on Friday evening. The win is the sixth straight for the Roos and moves them into a two-game lead for third place in the conference standings at 8-5, while they improve to 11-12 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Watkins led all players with 16 points and 13 rebounds shooting 5-for-10 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line. Antanasia Chambers totaled 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Breanna Cullers and Jenifer Morgan-Aubin posted 11 points apiece.

The Roos jumped out to a 12-7 lead after the opening quarter but dominated play in the second quarter doubling up the Hornets, 22-11. Canton led 34-18 at intermission.

Lyndon trimmed the deficit to nine at 50-41 three minutes into the fourth quarter but a 7-0 run from the hosts ballooned the lead back to 16 sealing the victory.

Canton outrebounded the Hornets 50-39 and held the upper hand in points in the paint (34-16) and fast break points (12-0).

Lea Crompton finished with 13 points for the Hornets and Faith Poirier added 11. Alissa Mitchell tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
