SUNY Potsdam basketball fans can watch the original ESPN broadcast of the 1982 Division III National Championship game at D3Hoops.com. The then defending champion Bears under legendary Coach Jerry Welsh took on Wabash College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Potsdam defeated Clark 53-51 in the NCAA first round, Salem State 59-58 in the regional championship, and Ursinus 62-44 in the quarterfinals to reach the Final Four. The Bears edged Brooklyn 50-49 in the semifinals before falling 83-62 in the final against Wabash. Leroy Witherspoon and Maurice Woods represented Potsdam on the 1982 All-Tournament Team.
