MORRISVILLE, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (5-2-1) defeated Morrisville State 5-2 on the road this afternoon. Freshman forward Natalie Wasielewski (Carnegie, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) had two goals and an assist and senior assistant captain Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Honeybaked) scored twice. Senior forward Taylor Marcellus (Waddington, N.Y./Ontario Hockey Academy) also scored for the Bears and freshman goaltender Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 32 saves for her third career win.

Wasielewski got the Bears on the board first at 9:51 of the first period with an unassisted goal. Just over five minutes later, Chyne Kennedy briefly tied the contest. Morr put Potsdam back in front with a power-play goal at 17:58. Junior defenseman Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Honeybaked) and sophomore defenseman Delphine Léonard (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson Colllege Prep) each assisted on the play. The Bears took a 2-1 lead and an 11-6 advantage in shots into the first intermission.

Wasielewski set up Morr for the eventual game-winner 4:43 into the second period. The Mustangs used two power plays to gain the edge in play, but White stopped all nine shots that came her way. Potsdam held its 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.

The Bears killed off their fourth and final penalty of the afternoon early in the third, but Morrisville struck moments later. At 9:04, Kennedy narrowed the gap to 3-2. Potsdam answered on a delayed penalty with an extra-attacker goal at 13:35. Marcellus buried a feed from freshmen defensemen Emily Burke (San Jose, Calif./San Jose Jr. Sharks) and Keira Thacker (Oakville, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks) to extend the lead back to two. The marker signaled the end of Mustangs goalie Karoline Arvik's night. She was replaced by Lillian Lewis. Lewis faced just one shot, but Wasielewski beat her to close the scoring at 5-2.

Arvik allowed four goals on 15 shots in the first 53:35. Lewis didn't have a save in the last 6:25. Morrisville outshot the Bears 34-20 and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Potsdam finished 1-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Bears are now off until they head to Plattsburgh on Friday, December 1, to kick off a home-and-home NEWHL series with the defending national champs at 7 p.m.
