Ashley Walker passed two Rensselaer runners in the final mile, and Mary Terhune sprinted past the same two runners in the home stretch to finish in first and second place, respectively, to lead the St. Lawrence University women's cross country team to its first conference championship since 2014 at the Liberty League Championships at Clarkson University on Saturday morning.
Walker covered the six-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 15.1 seconds, a pace of 5:59 per mile.Terhune, who was just four seconds behind Walker, was 0.4 seconds ahead of Rensselaer's top runner, Andrea Squeri, and 1.8 seconds ahead of the Engineers' Autumn Grim.
The Saints' five scoring runners finished in the top-11 with a spread of just 22.8 seconds from their first to fifth runner.
St. Lawrence, currently ranked 20th nationally, scored 29 points, 12 ahead 21st-ranked Renssealer. Thirty-first-ranked Vassar was third with 87 points.
Walker, Terhune and Caroline Driscoll earned First-Team All-Liberty League honors, while Leah Livernois and Sarah Moon earned Second-Team recognition.
