Alfred, NY – Sophomore Allison Wakefield made 11 saves and freshman Madison Rowe tallied a pair of shots but host Alfred University earned a 2-0 win v. the SUNY Canton women's soccer team on Wednesday.

Amanda Guariglia gave the Saxons (5-7-3) an early 1-0 lead when she headed home an Emily Wright corner kick in the 7th minute. Alfred held a 7-0 shots on goal advantage in the opening half but six first half saves from Wakefield kept the Roos (5-9-0) within one at intermission.

Lexi Riffelbach doubled the Saxons lead in the 60th minute on a header to tack on an insurance goal for Alfred.

Wakefield continued her overall impressive play finishing with five second half saves as she stopped 11 of the 13 shots she faced in the game. The Roos finished with a corner kick in each half but were unable to put a shot on target as Sammy Jo Shanahan finished with the clean sheet for the hosts.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday when it will host Alfred State College at 3:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
