Canton, NY – Freshman Joey Vocino (Pickering, ON) scored his second goal in two nights in thrilling fashion as he netted the game-winner with 1:13 remaining in the third period to lift the SUNY Canton men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory v. Hamilton College on Saturday night in the Roos House.
Kyle Matsumoto (Walnut, CA) opened the scoring at 13:34 of the first period on his second score of the season. Trenton Yule (Oswego, NY) and Eric Witzel (Ottawa, ON) earned helpers on the play. The Continentals (2-2-0) knotted the game at one with 2:31 remaining in the opening period as Jason Brochu lit the lamp. The teams skated into first intermission tied at 1-1.
Ben Beasley (Burlington, ON) helped the Roos (2-7-1) regain the lead at 8:15 of the second when he buried his third of the season in unassisted fashion. Hamilton once again responded at 16:24 of the middle period when Tyler Bruneteau beat Roo goaltender Louie Puig (Chicago, IL) to tie the score at two.
This set up the heroics for Vocino who scored just his second collegiate goal with 73 seconds remaining to lift the Roos to their second victory of the season. Puig turned aside 21 shots for the Roos, while Tim Nowacki made 29 saves for Hamilton.
The men's hockey team returns to the ice on Friday when it visits Morrisville State at 7 p.m.
